Battery charger mod

Postby LiteIsRite » Mon Dec 14, 2015 11:03 am

A few months ago I made a small / inexpensive mod to the boot to allow trickle charging of the battery when the car's not in use (which is most of the time as it's not a DD). Also, I had a 12V LED worklight laying around and found an easy way to use it as a boot light. Yeah, as usual, lots of pics.

Mounted a dual 12V accessory socket near the left rear taillight assembly. You can see the worklight cable plugged into one of the sockets...

Hooked it up to a fused lead on the battery positive (and to the chassis ground of course)...
Image

Mounted the bracket that comes with the worklight (it's magnetic but I added a self-tapper so it doesn't come adrift during handbrake turns  )...
Image

Let there be light (cheating, some flash here too)...

The charger plugs into the other socket, and its lead comfortably runs under the closed boot lid...

Nice work, the cig lighter connections can be handy additions too. On my car I went with a Ctek quick connect plug that came with the battery charger. For a while I did contemplate using Tamiya (toy remote control cars) battery charger plugs for a chuckle.

 Cheers! I used to run a 1/10 Tamiya drift car - those connectors aren't a bad way to go - but already having the lead light sorta dictated what to use.
