going to buy either an Adaptronic esel039 or haltech Platinum sport 1000, which one is better for ITb setup and VVT, which one has more usability and easier to work your way around. Cheers!!

Adaptronic has some better features, haltech had significantly better software/interface. I would say the haltech is much easier to use than the adap.

I would be looking into an elite1500...

Triple check all the sensors for everything to do with your ITB setup
and buy them all from Haltech if you going that route.

My old ITB and Haltech 1000 setup was on a dyno about 15 times
trying to make them behave in the end it was all about sensors.

I have a Haltech PS1000. There's info all over this forum about it. I reckon it may be working sortof ok now. It's taken 18 months and 3 tuners and no help whatsoever from Haltech.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

if i really have to buy all haltech sensors then no thankyou, i just have one available for a really good price and i wanted to know which is the better of the two so, if the haltech will cause issues then adaptronic it is.

The Adaptronic handles NB alternators, the ps1000 doesn't AFAIK - makes it MUCH easier to self-tune (when the A/C or additional loads kick in, preventing stalling is a big hassle without alternator input).

Whatever ECU you choose should be dictated by the tuner you're using - use what they prefer; they may be able to tune other ECUs but it wont be as good as what it could be with the ECU they know inside-out.

The Haltech certainly handles NB alternators, has since the E8/11 days.

I hear Magpie's experience, but as an E8/PS1000 user over the last 10 years or so on road/racecar and later a dedicated racecar, I have had exactly zero sensor issues.

I would not go so far as to say ECU choice should be dictated by what your tuner prefers, but you better have a very good reason not to do this. Better to go find another tuner who likes what you like.

I only had issues with one sensor, the CAS and it was not until a long time after the build was finished...

oztrackdays what sensor issues did you have?

davekmoore was more a choice of tuner than product, correct?

The American did have trouble with his PS1000, however it turned out to be a fault with the ECU itself.

I love my Haltech PS1000. I had it professionally tuned but I can muck around with it and tweak maps and other settings. It has heaps of spare I/O for things like shift lights, oils pressure sensors etc. I've had no issues with the stock car sensors... a couple of silly mistakes on my part like earthing the signal wires to the shielding. My car is a race car though so I'm not having to deal with aircon or even a nice idle...

I picked it up on gumtree with a loom for $600 which was a bargain. I would expect there to be a fair few around now that the Elite has been released.

I'm sure the Adaptronic would be very similar. I do find the Haltech software very easy to use, especially the data logging and as others have said, finding a tuner to work with your ECU is fairly important, especially in Perth where it's hard to find experienced tuners.

Yes the tuner was no good. Haltech, however, failed to help him or me to deal with the many issues. These included the failure to work with my OEM alternator, brake lights, etc etc.

Haltech still list him as a dealer.

Tbh, any decent ecu should run an mx5 fine... just needs a tuner who knows what they are doing.
