My remote key has stopped working (NC2). The battery is OK.

I'm looking for suggestions re troubleshooting this. My remote key has gradually lost power, with me having to get closer and closer to the driver door to get it to work. I changed the battery in the key, but it has made no difference. The key still works in the ignition, etc, but it is a pain in the proverbial to have to manually lock and unlock the doors and boot. I would love any suggestions; e.g. resetting the key somehow? Failing that, does anyone know how much a replacement key would be, and perhaps where one could be obtained in Melbourne, other than a Mazda dealer, as I know they will charge the earth.

When you press a function button on the remote (lock, unlock etc.), does the red light come on brightly?

One of my key fob did that also.
One fob kept working and I interchanged the various bits when the new battery didn't fix the problem.
I needed to reprogram the fobs as per the instructions posted

Thanks everyone. I've tried the suggested procedure, but it didn't achieve anything. I waited the 40 seconds and tried it again twice; all to no avail. I will probably ring my usual service centre, and see what they suggest, and if that fails, I may have to ring the dealer.
Thanks again,
Jitag

This happened to me also.
Bought another fob from eBay ex the USA.
Slightly different but way cheaper than the Mazda AU Price.

How did you program the transponder part for the ignition? Not the keyless entry part.

The chip in the key usually doesn't need to be reprogrammed. FYI, The chip is located inside the flip part.
If you remove the mazda logo there is screw underneath which allows you to unscrew the assembly to access it.
I had both keys and just needed to replace the keyless entry part.

Yeah, but I was after a spare key not just a replacement

Tried disassembling it to check (and clean) the connectors?
