Bluetooth for NC Series 1

Hi all,

Have been doing some reading and need to understand what the current concensus is with fitting bluetooth to my 2006 NC Series 1 (Bose) system.

I know there are some 3rd party devices (Grom, Audiolink etc) and there is also the OEM version as well

I'm looking for a device that will integrate as best possible with the steering wheel controls that will do handsfree calling and bluetooth streaming of music

Grom have the BT3 module which looks the goods, but not sure what people's experience has been

Also, is this kind of job I could do or should I be using an installer? If so, can anyone recommend an installer in Adelaide?

Myself and a few others are using the Grom BT unit

No complaints here

Easy as to install yourself also

How is the functionality? Does it integrate well with the steering wheel controls? Any text come up on the Bose display?

No text on the headunit.

But you can answer and reject calls through the steering wheel

I've had the Grom for just over a year now, and for the most part been happy with it.

It does have its issues, though, even with the latest firmware.

When playing music from a USB drive the transition to bluetooth is almost instant (e.g. Navigation prompt or message alert from phone) but there is a delay of a few seconds before it switches back to USB playback. I now only stream music from my phone to avoid this issue, rather than use the USB.

Bluetooth phone calls come through at a much lower volume than USB playback music.

It occasionally locks up the entire head unit, and can only be reset by switching off the car.

Even so, it's still probably the best solution out there for the NC1.

You can always take a far simpler solution. A Bluetooth device that attaches to the sun visor and is fully portable to any car - seems fine to me functional and legal. You are allowed to turn the volume of the radio down or switch it off or not listen at all.

I have a CT24MZ08 interface plugged into the back of the Bose unit which gives a 3.5mm audio input on the AUX channel, and then a Belkin "Aircast" bluetooth handsfree dongle plugged into that. The Belkin dongle is attached to the dash just above the Bose unit, and to the right, with double sided tape.
With this setup I can stream audio from my phone over bluetooth, and also make and receive handsfree phone calls.
However, obviously it does not use the steering wheel controls, other than volume & mute.
No issues, it all works as expected.

Sounds like one of those 3.5mm adapters would work for me too, I don't care about Bluetooth but would like to have a 3.5mm plug to my phone so I can play spotify and podcasts on my way to the track without using an FM Adaptor

Is the plug one of these? http://www.zoxoro.com.au/Products/Elect ... -Long.html I googled CT24MZ08 but all I found was facia adaptors.

The Grom unit works with the steering controls for both audio and phone

Volume well that controls the volume

the up/down controls answers/hangs up calls and changes tracks

I'll admit the Grom unit does sound good especially since you can change tracks on the wheel but for me not really needing bluetooth in my MX5 I think the $30 cable does 80% of what I want for 20% of the price (if that cable is the right one).

Sorry, that is the wrong part number. I'll dig around and see if I can find the right number.
Mine has a 3.5mm female socket on the cable, so can't be same as the unit in that link.
