Sounds painful. Save yourself the time and $$, just get a Haltech or Adaptronic.

Its like a gameboy compared to a PlayStation. .

When it comes to the ECU - Given the issues some have faced in recent months - I probably wouldn't risk it. MX5's have a lot of little quirks & you need to make sure the ECU is 100% suitable, as well as being able to have it tuned by someone (Ideally) familiar with MX5's.

In my research the top brands that people go with are Mega Squirt, Adaptronics & Haltech.

I happen to have a Haltech in my car & so far I'm very happy with it. Doesn't everything it should do just like a stock car :)

The best path with after-market ECUs is to find a tuner who is familiar with MX-5s and with whom you are happy to work, and then use whatever ECU they recommend.
Another option is to pick an ECU that suits your purposes, and then become an expert on that ECU, and then oversee or perform the tuning work yourself.

Yeah after some solid reasearch and talking to people who they swear by
Found out that dvs tuning is the place to go to on the central coast
And they supply and tune adaptronic

I have am using a tuner that has a workshop in Medowie, he worked for BMW Motorsport and has tuned most ECUs including OEMs (like his big hp Evo). He is very thorough and quickly got a handle on my Megasquirt problems. Will have a dyno soon.
