Ac regas/diagnostics on Sydney's north shore.

Hi everyone driving home in the storm the other night I realized my ac was blowing warm air.

The compressors not kicking in so its hopefully just a regas but not 100% sure.

Can anyone recommend a place or person and roughly how much I'm in for? On the north shore of sydney?

Cheers,

Jono.

I just got my car back having had a similar issue. Ended up being due to a loose fitting causing the system to be low on gas. The clutch on my compressor was still engaging unlike yours.

I checked
- fuses in the engine bay and under the dash
- that both fans engaged when the ac button was pressed
- Compressor clutch was energizing
- check also if any gas is visible in the dryer spyglass when aircon is turned on

Silvio at Repco in Botany (not in the north sorry) was nice enough to recheck the system (they performed the original conversion from old gas to new last year) top up the system and charged nothing for it. These guys could have easily charged me for some imaginary problem but didn't.

Good luck with yours.

What was involved in changing to the new gas? Also where's the spyglass?

Cheers.

It's a silver cylinder to the left of your bonnet catch. Looking down at it you should see a round glass window. When the aircon is running the gas should be clearly seen running inside. This unit is called the ac drier.

Looks something like the item in the first pic:

I can't see anything in the drier ac on and blower to full and i can't see anything in there. I take it that's a good sign of needing a regas?

Regas and confirmation you don't have a leak in the system.

Wow, that's cheap and local enough for me.

If i don't have a leak how would the gas escape?

Ive called up about 5 guys ranging from auto elecs to mobile regas services and there all $250.00 +- $10.00.

does anyone no if a regas includes an ac service or is it litterally just a regas, dye, leak check?

In this weather i cant wait to have icy cool ac 8)

What I would do- always do if possible is go and talk to people directly face to face. Aircond businesses can tell you what you want to know.

Gas leaks over time, you hadn't mentioned when your system was last regassed. I was only responding to your previous post as there are some operators out there that will happily take your $60 and give you a regas without a leak test. $60 wasted if you end up having a broken line or a hole in your condenser.

I'm going to attempt to get my ac regassed today. With any luck I will be only in for a regas.

So i've just got my car back and damn.

Started regassing and heard a leak. Turned on the a/c and oil started pissing out the condensor. So now i'm in for a compressor service, regas, and condensor.

Damn.

Just waiting to get a price on all the work and parts.

Where about was it leaking? If near the joins, you probably just need the o'ring replaced.

Also, what do you mean by a 'compressor service'?

I didn't see exactly where it was leaking from but it was the right hand side from the back in between the condensor and the radiator. But now that you mention it it was towards the edge of the unit so hopefully it could be just a seal but then again wouldn't the guy of realized that?

I asked the guy what he meant by compressor service and he said that because the compressor dropped its oil it needs oil. So ill see when i get a quote what exactly is meant by that and wether its just an oil change or anything more.

The only other thing he said needs to be done is the ac drier.
