no high beams, sort of :-(

Postby mmx005 » Fri Oct 10, 2014 12:02 am

Hi guys need a little help.

Went for a drive tonight in my 98 NB8A and when I put my high beams on, I lost my low beam lighting and everything thing went dark i.e. no hi or lo beam, just parkers and the blue hi beam light on the dash. HOWEVER the pass function works properly which tells me my globes and fuses are ok, i can also hear the relay click when i use pass (lights come on too) but no click or lights when using normal hi beam.

is there a separate relay for normal hi beam (ie when you aren't using pass? ??? Should i be looking for /at the previously mentioned relay or the switch at the end of the stalk or am i going in the wrong direction? ?????

I HAVE NO OTHER PROBLEMS and haven't done anything electrical in the car for quite a while.

Thank you in advance,

Ben

The contacts in the combination switch (which controls the lighting functions) get dirty over time, and eventually will stop conducting. You can either take the switch out and clean it, or buy a replacement switch (that's what I did)

Ok, does that mean removal of the steering wheel and air bag? ??

Yes it does, but it's quite straightforward.
