Anyone come across this hole before?
Was mucking around today and just stumbled across it. Anyone know if it would work for a coolant temp sensor? I have the VDO sensor.
Cheers.

Yes it does. I believe the NA6 has a temp gauge at that spot.

Where was that picture taken?
I was looking for something like that before I spent the (big) $$$ on the Maruha sandwich plate but couldn't find one on my NB SE...... :(

Right behind the engine. Look from right hand side of car and really reach in behind. I actually used my phone to take a photo so I could actually have a good look at it.

Stuff that's good to know when dealing with sensors:

US sensors are 1/8" NPT-27 (National Pipe Thread, 27 threads per inch)
UK sensors are 1/8" BSPT-28 (British Standard Pipe Thread, 28 threads per inch)
Many Japanese companies, such as Greddy, use 1/8" PT-28 (Pipe Thread, 28 threads per inch); this is actually the same as BSPT-28, they just drop the "British Standard" prefix. DO NOT RELY ON THIS THOUGH, some Japanese companies used NPT-27!

You MUST use the correct fittings; although they're both 1/8" and may appear to be interchangeable, they're not and will result in leakage.

ie. Find out what the thread is first before buying the sensor.

Thanks lokiel. I was going to check sizes before trusting anything.
hopefully it works. I'll keep you updated on my build thread how I go.

If it is like the NB8A as shown below, then yes straight swap between factory temp sensor and circled screw in bung.

rearhead.jpg

I did my reroute this way. swapped front and rear housings, and put bung into temp sensor location on ex-rear housing which became front housing, and screwed factory sensor into the spot vacated by this bung. All fitted perfectly, and didnt have to extend any wiring to front of motor..
