Looking back, looks like the lever linkage may have been lose. Will look at it tomorrow.

photos you posted on your car shows both lights up in daylight. Not a good look. It might be a good plan to get the lights to function correctly. I have never worked on NA lights but there is of course a motor and linkage to raise and lower and a warning don't get fingers anywhere near the mechanism / open lamp. I would guess a workshop manual e.g. Haynes will have a section on retractable lamps and probably on forum as well.

morlock, You can push a button on the dash to lock them up to allow you to work on them.
I would suggest this is why they are up in the day time.

Check to see if there is anything jamming in the linkages especially when you have been routing wires around.

Ok now. One of the linkages hindering ever so slightly. Temperamental these light motors.

Got your pm.
I've posted the problem linkage below. Its a plastic "cap" (centre of picture) that is not 100%. Can they be replaced?

Yes, they can be replaced, but you'll probably need to wreck another linkage to get one.
Pull it through, gently drill hole through, flat washers to pack and a split pin will do the job. They are meant to have a bit of movement there, don't go nuts.

Hi Pam,
And to Nick, be careful as not to feed the beast.
I hope to be in Smellbourne soon and will endeavour to tie it in with a Thursday catch up, I need to see HR.
Greg.

Hey Greg! It would be awesome to see you again. I've dropped off on meets lately, so let us know when you're down.
We're hoping to catch up with him as well. The HR department will probably fire us for non-attendance though

Greg , this is the linkage.
Looks like mine has had it.
Any thoughts on how to replace with new one below? $25 on E Bay. They've sold 60 odd, so it is a common problem.
