[NB] Aircon not cold

Hey guys,

I've had my SP for a couple years now and it has been great, but since purchase the aircon has been giving me issues.

Last year it wouldn't turn on at all, the pressure switch wasn't letting it activate due to low gas. So I had a professional re-gas the system and check it for leaks, this worked great, aircon worked fine after a re-gas and he reported no leaks.

It continued to work fine for about a month at which point it stopped blowing cold air. Now the aircon turns on and the compressor starts turning, but it no longer blows out cold air. I assume there is gas in the system as it's still turning on, it hasn't triggered the low pressure switch and the guy said it had no leaks.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Is the compressor buggered?

Just though I would ask here before getting a professional to look at it.

99% of the time when aircon fails it will be because there is no gas.

If it rolled into my shed first thing I'd do is check pressures.
The gas level can be quite low but pressures still high enough to not activate the low pressure cut out switch. Therefore the system will still run just not be cold.
The last re-gas should have had a UV dye in the oil so with a black light you can inspect all lines connections and components for signs of a leak which will glow quite brightly. Without the light you can sometimes spot a leak when dirt and dust sticks to the oil that comes out of the leak.

The most common spots for leaks are the condenser as it cops a lot of rocks and also a fair bit of flex sitting right at the front. Next are the O-rings on the condenser lines and the O-rings at the receiver drier. Sometimes the evaporator fails from corrosion thanks to constantly damp leaves dirt and fluff sucked into the heated box. You can check the evaporator by pulling the fan speed resistor and shining a torch into the heater case.

Best of luck with it and keep us posted on what you find.

Rolley.

it could be the relay, I had a similar problem like you before, full of gas but no cold air come out even the air con is on.

ask them to check the relay for you

Got this fixed today, ended up being a leak in the evaporator behind the dash. Woking like a champ now.
