Hey guys,
So I'm planning on installing some switches to run my car (99 nb8a). Two toggle switches for "Acc" and "On". A third momentary toggle for 'Start'.
I've figured out all the wires from the ignition barrel wiring, so that's no problem. I also know that I can drill out the steering lock mechanism so that's also no problem.
HOWEVER it wont start unless the key is in the ignition. Using ONLY the switches the car will start but it will die half a second later. Using the switches and just leaving the key in the ignition the car will run as normal. Even though the key isn't actually wired to anything
Is there a chip or something in the key that means it's necessary to be in the ignition? Is there anyway I can bypass the key being in there as that defeats the purpose?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers in advance

Yep there's a small chip in the key itself

I think one is to starter, one is to ignition, last one is earth. As long as the key is in the car then the car will armed

Okay it seems that some people cut open there keys and remove the chip, then glue it to the ignition barrel. Now I just need to find out how to go about that

I wonder how this all can be seen as a benefit- 3 toggle switches and drilling out ignition barrel and removing chip. Most of us also have 2 keys for obvious reasons. I do recall that the US site did have a system which did use a start button sourced from Honda spares- maybe take a look at that.

I think he doesn't want to use the key at all and it is possible. However it take times to find out the cable also there are high risk of car being stolen.
