Trickle charger success..

Just wanted to report that when my 2002 was left for 5 weeks unused previously it would not start.
It has the original battery...
Bought a cheap trickle charger (from Jaycar) and after 5 weeks overseas, battery is like new and starts first go.

I have one here I bought at SuperCheap, didnt cost much and used it when I had my Corolla Sportivo that would do very little km's
I now take it south every Christmas as my mum no longer drives, she still has the Honda Civic and I drive it when I'm there - the ONLY km's it does in a year!! Just plug in and it's ready to go!

I have one like this
There's a lead and plug that you can permanently wire in, I made up my own one for each of my cars and the motorbike. Motorbike battery is a PITA to get to so I've just zip tied the plug up behind the number plate.

I went to an 86/BRZ 'Detail Day' in Brisbane a few weeks ago and it was held where BMW's are detailed etc before delivery to the Dealers. The shed held around 150+ cars and outside the majority of the stock had the solar panels on the dashboards to keep them charged - I'd never seen that before

Mine's left deep underground safely away from solars.
Can't be the energy saving benefit from solar (uses minimal electricity) but I guess if the car is away from a power point or there's dozens to keep charged simultaneously there is a -ahem- point.
