confused about LED fog lights...

Postby wun911 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 7:24 pm

I want to buy some LED fog lights for my NB8B.

I wanted to buy these because they are cheap and I wont have to replace them as often (hopefully) and it comes with the black plastic that holds the bulb which is all melted on mine....

http://www.easy-motorcycle.com/high-pow ... e-p-8.html

Is the 9006 Type light bulbs is that the black plastic fitting?
Or is 9006 the black plastic fitting that holds either a H1 or H3?

Or has anyone simply installed HID fog lights what kits fit the NB8B, I feel that might be a better Idea because they run cooler and wont melt stuff, then I can just leave them on all the time like day time running lights.
every ounce counts

The whole thing is a single unit.
9006 = HB4

If the plastic melted on your OEM lights then there must have been a bad electrical connection. Nothing to do with heat output of the bulb.

it is not fog light it is a bulb. The NB already has a fog lamp and it is fitted with a standard halogen bulb. Legally you cannot run a fog lamp unless it is foggy. Fog lamps esp the MX5 are pretty useless things and high intensity is not what they are about - extra watts will do nothing except get hot. If you buy halogen bulbs then Philips or Osram are the best choice - the cheapies are rubbish. If you want to be seen there is really only one sensible choice- an led drl - see the threads on it. PS H3 ,H4 H1, H2 9004 etc merely describe a light source ie a bulb made to a spec. If you look in any catalog eg Narva or Hella Philips Osram all these will be listed. Each bulb type goes into a fitting ( bulb holder) and is part of the lamp design.

Really?
It is a Lamp---> a device that produces artifical light.
Bulb, globe etc refers to its shape, hence G lamps, T lamps, Festoon lamps, R lamps, PAR lamps and so on.
If you are going to pedantically correct people on nomenclature, get your own correct first. Better luck next time!

Anyways, I bought some nice ebay H11 6000K for the SE. They cost about $9 the pair, delivered and have a similar colour temp to my low beam HID's.
Fitting HID's to the fog lights will be easy but as it is not a projector lens you will need to look for a HID kit with H2R and not H2S lamps.
Otherwise you WILL dazzle oncoming road users. The H2R lamps have a deflector plate on the glass.
May I suggest you investigate the 25W CREE led lamps? (about $30 on ebay)

They are 5x5W cree lamps but they will be quite effective.
These are the same LED's that we run in our AY UP bike lights.
Probably a better idea than using non-H2R HID lamps.

Au contraire mon ami, I believe it to be indeed your goodself, who is in the dark on this matter.
I am merely attempting to illuminate the subject in the sincere hope that you will, eventually, see the light.
