I've been doing a 2 liter build on my '00, and if patience is a virtue I can't tell you any more - I've been working on this thing a long f*ing time. Along the path I wanted to tackle the oil pressure issue and fitted a VDO 0-180ohm sender to the engine, and looked at the gauge mods on miata.net to deal with the linearity . I tried the resistor mods and linearity was good to about 90ohms, but from 90-180omhs it just sucked - the needle moves about 1/8 of an inch. I made an adapter to fit a VDO view-line gauge in to the gauge cluster the details are here.
I revved the adapter so there is no solder needed:
Gauge looks pretty stock, and gives great linearity up to 180ohms (80 psi):
Only issue is the night time illumination doesn't work that well, the backlighting doesn't get to the needle - but the car is a track car, so I don't really care about this, though there might be a way to pipe the lighting up there:
All in all pretty close to getting this car running - it's controlled by an AEM-EMS4, I'm using a TrackSpeed 12+1 trigger wheel, but there's a whole nuther set of issues.
