Do All NA6's Have Head-Rest Speaker Frames?

Hi Folks.
I recently ordered a set of head-rest speakers from 3rd Millenium. I was led to believe that the head-rest speaker frames were standard fitment in all Australian delivered NA6's, but I don't seem to have the hardware. Here are the facts:
* My car is a 1990 NA6.
* The seat-back covers do not have a zip behind/around the head-rest.
This could mean that they are seats from a later model, but I'm not sure (I haven't pulled the seat-covers off yet to have a look). I am considering hunting for some seat-backs that have the zipper for speaker access, but before I do, I would like to know if my existing back-rests are likely to contain the frame for the speakers. Can anyone shed some light on the situation?
1. Are my seat-backs likely to contain the speaker frames, even though they don't have the zipper in the covers?
2. Can I easily fit the speaker frames into my seats, or should I look at acquiring another set of seat-backs with all of the necessary hardware?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Trav.

Post a Pic of your seats this will help
But if there is no ZIP then I think you have later model seats

Think my old ADM '89 NA6 had the zip, but no speaker fitted. An ADM '94 NA8 I had a couple of years ago had the zip & speaker fitted, but my ADM '93 doesn't have the speaker, although it has the zip which is covered by a flap of seat material around the side of the headrest. When I looked at the speakers in the '94 NA8, from memory they were just set in the headrest foam as opposed to there being a frame as such.

AFAIK all ADM, if not all MX-5/Eunos Roadster globally, NA's have zippered headrest section AND speaker accomodation which, from memory, is as clubman mentioned, simply little alcoves in the headrest foam without any dedicated frame. Perhaps just little tabs or whatnot for mounting.
Also check under the seats for wiring.
As mentioned, you either have different seats (NB?) or seat covers.

Aussie NA6s all have the zipper. It is HIDDEN underneath the seam on the outside of the headrest. Connector is the loose plug on the floor under seat (you run your own wiring up the groove on the back of the seat under the cover).

Hi Folks.
Thanks for the info. Based on your replies I now suspect that I have either later model seats or later model fabric covers on NA6 seats. I also suspect that my seat frame and foam will be able to accommodate the speakers that I have purchased, regardless of the lack of zipper. So, where to from here?
I am planning to do the following:
1. Remove the fabric covers from my seats. This will allow me to see the frame/foam. If it looks like the speakers will go stright in then proceed to step 3.
2. Modify the back rests to allow them to accommodate the speakers, if necessary.
3. Install the speakers in the head rests.
I will post a couple of photos and some words when I have more details about what lurks inside my seat covers. Thanks again.
Cheers,
Trav.
Ps. Just to clarify, I don't have seat covers over the EOM fabric covers, and there are definitely no hidden zippers (I had Dougie the experienced MX-5 head-rest speaker installer check for me, coz I thought I may have failed to spot them).

Like you say, it sounds like the covers have been replaced.

have you actually looked at what OEM NA seats look like and compared them to yours?
It's all well and good that you say that whatever seat you have does not have a seat cover, what we are trying to tell you is that:
A) your seats are NOT NA seats
and
B) when we mention "seat cover" we are not talking about the universal ones you buy at Autobarn/Repco/Supercheap etc.
or
C) the original seat cover that has the zipper has been completely replaced with one that does not have a zipper.

Hi Folks.
Thanks for the replies. The full picture is starting to become clear....
My discerning uncle believes that my seats are from an NB series 1. We think this probably means that my seats will not have the pockets to accommodate the speakers, because NB's had speakers in the parcel shelf as opposed to the head rest. This will not prevent me from taking the covers off and having a look though.
I still intend to remove the covers and come up with a way to mount my speakers. I had forgotten that I have an old set of sacked out NA6 seats inmy shed, so may be able to remove the foam from them and mount it into the NB seat frame. Has anyone tried to mount speakers into NB headrests?
More words and some photos will follow when I have more info.
Cheers,
Trav.

If you posted a quick picture of the seats that would end the confusion.
NBs don't have parcel shelf speakers (nor speakers in the headrest).
I think it would be difficult to do what you're planning as;
NA headrest speakers are sandwiched between the foam with perforations for the sound to escape (thus you don't reverse headbutt them all the time).
NB headrests are a difft shape so you'd have to do a lot of shaping to fit the NAs (you might get the shape wrong). Chopping off the NB section will end in tears. Your seat headrests may look a bit wonky.

Ah yeah no.....
My NA6, number 321 and ADM has no zip in the seat cover and has the original seats and no speakers or wiring for such.
I was under the impression that the head reat seats were in the clubman or limited edition cars not the vanilla NA6's.

My boring old 1990 NA6 had the zips, etc. Not an LE, etc.
