Not normal.
You may have a moisture problem in the boot due to a seal leak or roof drain blockage. Alternatively, you may have acid leaking from the battery. Is it an AGM vented battery connected to the original battery vent lines or is it a standard lead acid battery Photo

There is an alternate though.....could it be The Mesterons trying to sabotage your MX-5. Very nasty those Mysterons. Good thing we have The Thunderbirds, Joe90 and others on hand to help.

I will take a pic I think it is a standard sealed lead acid type, I found a rubber tube not connected to anything as well.
thank you, I'll also check roof drains. The car has hardtop on all of the time as it's my daily and for the moment I have nowhere to store the extra roof..

I have heard of Supercar, but don't remember seeing it....I see your UFO and raise Space 1999
As for the battery. If it is your normal acid battery you are best to replace it. There is a thread here on the other batterys that will fix a MX-5 and have the proper vents. Just did a quick search, the aftermarket alternative is a Supercharge MF43 Calcium battery at around $100.

If it's a seal, it tends to be the seals around the rear lights, although boot lid seal may also be a possibility.
