NA8A - Blowing fuse for dash, tail and park lights

So, last week I noticed that the dash lights weren't working, and then realised that the tail lights and park lights were also non-functional. Found the blown fuse and replaced it with the rquired 10 amp fuse and all seemed good. Confirmed all lights were working....happy camper.

Today the same thing happened....replaced the fuse, this time with a 20 amp as thats all I have left.......blew as soon as I turned on the park lights.....now an unhappy camper.

Before I pull all of the tail and park lights and check them for the right wattage and plug fittings has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks
J.

Check the harness for loose wire, or chafing against the bodywork, probably close to the lights. I'd start in the boot, that's where stuff might have moved about and snagged some wires.

Have you done anything electronically to the car recently head unit or something perhaps? I know sometimes at work with headunits if they get double earthed you can experience similar problems. If not do what has been mentioned above.

Thanks for the responses.

I have patched the 3rd brake light wiring as it was broken at the normal bend point, as well as replacing the globe. I have also had the current dodgy head unit out to fix the power antenna wiring. I have also removed the door covers and noticed some extra wiring in there, and in the engine bay that gives me the impression that there may have been an alarm/central locking installed and then removed at some time in the past.......

Does sound like it might be related to recent tidying-up of electrics - wiring diagram in the first of the following:

Thanks Paul. That first post looks interesting.....will revist my head unit/antenna wiring, and of course the wiring diagram will always come in handy.

I spent some time yesterday arvo cleaning up the stereo headunit's wiring. It was dodgy to say the least. I will be redoing this when I replace the headunit in the next month or so. While there I had a look under the dash and found what appears to be a module for a central locking system, with wiring running from it into the doors. There is also wiring running through the firewall into the engine bay, but not actually connecting to anything. I didn't have a chance to see what this was connected to under the dash. I also found that some wiring in a primary loom under the steering column had been patched.

Before going to bed last night I said a prayer to Lucas the High Lord of Darkness in the hope that I can clean up this mess without the loss of too much smoke from the wiring.

Oh, on a good note, I must have done something right as the dash, tail and park lights are now working (touch wood).
