OE Radio/cassette eccentricity ? NA6

My stock head unit has decided that it will turn on only when it feels like it , at other times when the on button is pushed it engages in Pythonesque forplay by raising the aerial about 5cm then retracting it.

At its last but one refusal to work atall I cleaned all the aerial contacts in the boot electrics this was successfull with one aerial errection.

At the last refusal today it was obvious that the problem lay with the head unit as when the on button was pushed there was a brief display flash but no turn on.

I removed the on and balance control button thingos and hit it with contact spray--no result--no suprise.

Put a tape in and horay worked --and then not to be outdone so did the aerial --

Anybody know what the problem may be , the damned aerial is working fine now but --------------------

Very common NA6 tuner problem. Mine started to do it after driving through an electrical storm one night from GC to Mullumbimby. I'm sure there's something on here about the cause & possibly a fix, but will have to do a bit of digging.

Got a mention on here to, but this seems to be pretty comprehensive:

This might be what I was originally thinking of:
rpost77 wrote:Also, there is a procedure to short 2 connections in this 13 pin plug to stop the "radio won't turn on when it's humid" issue (I had this problem and resolved by using the shorting method - used a paperclip to short pins 5 & 11 (from memory)).

Have a look at this page for details of the MX5 radios and connectors:-
