NB Aerial into an NA ?

Postby Basho » Fri Dec 09, 2011 6:48 am

Will an NB electric aerial fit an NA and work , or is an electrical engineers degree and panelbeaters certificate needed to do the switch/install ?

I remember seeing an NB aerial for sale a while ago with the note "bought it to see if it fits an NA. It doesn't."

Think that was someone that wanted to replace the NA8 power aeriel with an NB8 power aeriel - it's possible but not a straight swap.

However, Basho has an NA6, which if standard will have the non-power screw on aeriel. Could be done, but I don't think it's basic PnP.

My NA6 is stock but has a dreadfull aftermarket rubber monstrosity that looks like a large black dead dehydrated porcines pizzle that has obviously been used as a replacement for the factory power one by someone with the aesthetic sensibilitys of a rutting fruit bat as all the wireing and plug, little relay box etc for a leky one is there,

I have dispensed with the pizzle this morning and replaced it with a normal black telescopic Aerpro 4 section which at least looks nice and tidy and works fine. $11.90 Supercheap.

I have also located new ones in the US of A for $103, the tracked postage for these is $33 and if it wasn't for the fact that by next Mon I will have coughed a total of three and a half grand in servicing and new wheels and tyres in the last 3 weeks I'd be grabbing one.

Still might , rooted , double rooted- whats the diff :?:

NA6 didn't have a power aeriel - it had a nearly metre long screw in one, which could be unscrewed from outside the vehicle.

OK, strange, and yet there is everything to support the power aerial except the aerial itself. was the oe fitting a rigid mount swiveling half ball that the aerial screws into arrangement?

If so thats what I've just maligned--and replaced , -god it's ugly.

At least the '92 NA6s came fit for, but obviously not with the power aerial. NA6 non-power aerial base looked like this:

The na6 factory aerial is about 2 feet tall, and makes the car look like a RC car, if your interested pm me as I have one lying around. It's Chrome not black(?)

Thanks , I've just ordered an eleky newby from the good ole US of A , maybe foolishly given the time of year and the fact the thing looks like a millimetre perfect fit , always a recipe with aftermarket stuff for a waste of time/cash.
