Hey guys,
So...I was under the dash again. Just tidying up the ecu loom, and fixing the vibrations under there with some zip ties. Also redid my shift light wiring. I also fitted a boost guage, and wired it parallel with the cluster light dimmer, so it dims with the cluster.
What I did was used the fuel guages earth screw on the back of the guage cluster for the earth on my led shift light.
The shift light is just a single 5mm led and is fired by the ecu. Its on when I am above shift rpm, and when the ignition is on but the engine is off.
So I put everything back together, started the car (shift light would have gone on for a second).
Then took it for a drive. All was great. New boost guage lit up and dimmed correctly. Then after 5 mins I realised that the fuel guage wasnt working. It was empty.
So...
Ive disconnected the led from the guage.
Removed the guage and run power to it manually. It works correctly but will not go above 3)4 under it own power.
Double checked that the sender is fine. Double checked continuity from the sender to the guage. Double checked power and earth.
Anyone local want to swap cluster one afternoon?
God dam I hate dash stuff. Its the only thing I hate.
Im not scared of it, I know what im doing, but the manufacturer just makes it so hard to work on and follow the wires.

Also general whinge while Im here.
Im sick of little bits and pieces going wrong.
The next major mods will be MS3 and an extensively redone loom. Some of my loom is burned by the PO (I swear lol) So ill be looking for a new one, Then im going to unpick most of it. Remove whats not needed. Then run MSextra and rewire for sequential fuel and spark.
Where can I buy OEM quality connectors? Im sick of cheap jaycar rubbish.

OEM quality connectors- a good question. I used to know a lot of the names but there have been so many changes mergers buy outs and businesses exiting the market. Seeing as you only require nominal qty's it might simply be worth seeing if Mazda spare parts can help. One of the famous names in electrical items was Utilux ( check on line) and this is apparently owned now by Tyco. I smile now when I first heard the joke from a Tyco company representative that the acronym meant Take Your Company Over- that is what they did in Au and overseas.
You might also see if there are any wiring assy companies who can give you a lead on where to buy. There are of course so many connectors and terminals made so you need to know what you want or be able to browse a catalog like old dude linked.

Dann,
This place
http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/ has OEM connectors for just about anything, I think you can get all the connectors for your COP's there too.

Ill post some pics of underneath my dash. You do that to ANYTHING you will have issues lol.
The issue is that everything has been redone, and I never have the car off the road. So lots gets rushed unfortunately. Buying a 250 soon so that should fix that.
Also, bought a new multimeter, the last one caught on fire. One of the resistors balancing the signal was 26ohm not the 56 its supposed to be. New resistor ordered ill put it in this arvo and report back.

Thanks guys.
New resistor in. Appears to be working properly. Ill know in a few more KM.
Only issue is I moved the needle on the pin, so although I moved it back, I dont know exactly where empty is. Ill keep a jerry in the boot and just run it dry.

This may sound like a silly option but wouldn't it work (and be easier) if you went the other way round? That is, fill the tank right up and adjust the needle to full...one would assume that it would do down to empty, when its empty? Or is there something else I don't know?

I'd prefer to know exactly where empty is rather than exactly where full is.
It seems to be working right at the bottom half of the guage. Just put some more petrol in, it went up. Bloody guage isnt linear anyway. I hate how the middle of the guage moves fast, but the edges move so slowly.
Is that normal? Mine has always been like that.
