On my recent trip overseas to see one of my suppliers he showed me these 10w compact LED lights. First thing I thought of was the MX . Install took about 10 mins each as they mount upto the factory holes for the front bar, then the wiring which took most of the time as i set up another in-cabin switch with relay etc. Have them hooked up so I can only activate them after I flick the parkers on. I have TSI's so no parkers anyway but they will only activate with turning the parkers on. One is spot beam (25deg coverage) the other spread (45deg). Best thing bout these are they have a life expectancy of about 30 000 hrs dont need ballasts just + and - and draw about 0.8A @ 12v which is bugger all. Dimensions are 50mm x 50mm x 70mm. Here are some pics. Night pic is taken with just the LED lights on, my batt died so wasnt able to get some driving vids/shots. I took a short vid at home, Ill have a driving vid soon to show comparisons with OEM headlamps on Hi/Lo beam..

I've been looking for something like that I'd definitely be interested in a few of these...I reckon they'd make great reversing lights as well! I was thinking about it for the peoplemover and I've got very bad reflection off my perspex windblocker so a compact, bright light for when I reverse would be great.

Can I just wire these up to the reversing light? How much, when, etc?

They could easily be hooked up as a reversing light. Alot of the offroad/4wd crew are starting to do this now. Yep just wire directly to your reverse lights as they draw very little amperage, if you change your actual reverse lights with replacement LED it would be even better.

Pricing will be dependant on the numbers. Would take about 8-10 days from confirmation to get these in.

London to a brick it is not legal-. If it is a dtrl ( what is its purpose) then why not just buy a purpose built product ( which incidentally uses prob 1w leds. DTRL's have a stipulation on function- not hard to check. On the MX5 it is actually very hard to fit them so that they are dimensionally compliant with regs even with approved dtrls. You do not need 10w leds to be seen and these products whatever their purpose may annoy other drivers. Looks a really bad idea to me. PS if you want a reverse light these are also made as purpose built products.

Morlock I know lighting is an interest area for you, and yes I've read Daniel sterns webpage. BUT not everything is illegal all the time!

I, plan to use these as high beam switched driving lights, as such I believe they are completely legal?

Their attraction will be their (hopefully cheap) cost and low current consumption.

The beam pattern aims far too high for normal use from what I can see, but in a twisty forest section with no on coming traffic I care alot more about where the road goes and what wild life is about than beam cut offs.

Yes, I've looked for them and they are either pretty big; halogen; or funnily enough...similar to the one here.

How much of a kit does it need to be anyway - LED light, compact, with 2 wires to tap into your existing reverse light circuit.

Exactly this. The lights are not intended to be used as dedicated driving lights hence the reason why I triggered them via parkers + switch. Typically they would be wired to be triggered via your Hi beams + switch for extra light when needed, alot of our customers that use our HID driving lights and LED light bars wire them this way. You wouldn't go Hi beaming oncoming traffic would you? Also I havent had a chance to adjust the lights, they could be pointed down some more. If you were to use them as reverse lights it would probably be better to mount them up high but pointing down onto the road. Will give you plenty of coverage without blinding oncomers.

I do not endorse these lights as dedicated driving lights, just an alternative LED spot/spread light to whats out there. They are a very tough unit, use the same armoured lenses that the LED light bars are made from, pretty much unbreakable and their waterproof.

I am not sure at all what the light is designed for. If I was driving in the bush / country roads I would opt for driving lights and their performance is exceptional well beyond the high beam but most of us rarely get to use these lights. Does the light come with ADR compliance. Lighting is very tightly legislated.

Bush yes is get proper spotlights to make sure I got the distance.

I'm talking mountain forest where I'm trying to get plenty of fill plenty and throw towards the edge.

why don't you quote the adr or modification rules that prevent light upgrades to driving lights (high beam switched). ;-)
