Comparing 3 different 4x100w amps

Postby frostex » Fri Jul 15, 2011 3:11 pm

Ok, well i am budgeting $300 for a 4ch x 100w amp. Please help me decide which one to choose.

After lots of shopping i have found deals on the following 3 amps and each one between $270-$300

1) Clarion APX4360: http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2 ... 46860.html

2) Option OAC160: http://www.optionaudio.com.au/amplifiers_oac160.php

3) Response: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.as ... TID=1028#4

All are brand new in box, and i dont give a crap about warranty. The clarion is about 8cm wider than the other 2 which is something to consider in a miata.

Can't find detailed enough specs for the Response amp.

Assuming that you're looking at supporting 2 front speakers and 1 subwooder, I'll choose the Option amp. Lower THD for a start but don't expect it to be able to suppose some super sub at the back.

*Not an audio gear expert here though - let's see what others thing.

"miata"???... Are you frmo the US mate?

haha, that was copy/pasted from an email i sent to a US friend.

Umm it will be used to power 2x 6.5" or 8" coax's at the front, and 2x 6"-8" Free Air subs at the back. nothing monsterous, im not a real subby person.

If you want my honest opinion, I'd ditch all three of those and get a better quality amp with lesser output (say, 4x50).

For around that price range you should be able to get a pretty nice little amp, and contrary to the belief of many power isn't everything. A reasonably efficient sub will go plenty loud off 200w (which is what a 4x100 amp will generally bridge to), and 2x50 is plenty of power to drive a set of speakers loudly.

If I had to choose between those three i'd probabably go with the Option or Clarion. I've not been impressed at all with the noise on on Response amps.
