Something odd happened today. Advice/knowledge appreciated

Postby emx005 » Sun Jul 10, 2011 9:20 pm

Hi all,

I was pulling out of a shopping centre today. Fairly steep ramp and a little bit bumpy (just in case that has something to do with the cause)

So... the passenger headlight on my NA6 decides to pop up and then back down. Just the one headlight and not both. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what the causes might be?

Many thanks

Mike

I've had that, plus other headlight winking and shenanigans... I've put in down to the LA12 relay which controls the headlight motors - you can replace them fairly cheaply (2nd hand) or order O/S for a new unit if you don't mind waiting. Genuine Mazda is just too expensive when alternatives in the UK or USA exist.

I've ordered my replacement and should be coming this week - I'll let you know if this indeed cures my processed headlight.

David at MX5mania noted that the issue of the disappearing headlights (not the winking) may not be the LA12 relay; it could also be broken/damaged/dry joint wiring in the steering column.

If the LA12 relay cures it, then that's great.

If enough NA people have the problem, how about we consider a LA12 group buy?
