NC OEM BOSE + HTC +/- Ipod Connector

Hi Forum,

I thought i might try connecting my HTC Desire to my Standard Bose Stereo given that I'm starting to give up with CDs. My phone currently connects to my OEM bluetooth device with no trouble. I would like to however connect it to the car charger and stereo so that i can listen to good quality music from my phone.

I have tried to do some searches as to how this can be done but with no luck. Can anyone please give me advice as to where to read a guide or provide information as to how to set this up and what equipment i need.

I would like to connect my HTC but failing this I guess I would connect my Ipod. Are there any options other than the $250ish "Genuine Mazda Ipod kit" ?

Cheers,
Kris

Use a male to male cord and a head unit with a 3.5mm jack input.

Thanks Dann, but does the OEM Bose have a 3.5mm Head phone Jack? Is it behind the head unit? I don't really want to change my head unit.
If there isn't a 3.5mm line in is there a different cable (3.5mm to something else) that will work plugged into the Bose headunit?
Cheers

Hi guys,
After investigating further on the internet and in the car, I have pulled out my bose unit. I was surprised just how easily this was done.
1. Remove side panels (they clip off)
2. Unscrew 4 easy to find screws
3. Put car into 4th gear
4. Pull unit straight out
5. Unplug cables stuck in back of unit.
As a note, the car started as per normal with no upset from my “mazda high spec alarm” and probably goes even faster now with the weight saving!
Anyhow, back on topic, I have taken photos of the unit removal and back of stereo. Can someone please identify the plugs, and can I use either one of the empty plugs for a corresponding aux in cable to 3.5mm head phone jack for my HTC desire?
I think then I will try to find a nice phone mount to hold my phone, allowing me to use sat nav, music, phone etc. Can anyone recommend a good phone mount which is not too intrusive- there is already limited space in the nc cockpit.

I have seen the audiolink, GROM and official mazda units to connect USB/IPOD etc to the stereo and control the music through the car stereo and wheel controls, however i'm wondering if such a unit is necessary or is there simply just a cable that i can plug in directly from my 3.5mm headphone jack on my phone directly into the back of the bose unit , then select media, and play?

cheers.

I connected the IPod cable up to the socket next to the aerial.

Mine's not a Bose system though but I'm of the opinion that it's the same head unit.

I picked up my "genuine" Mazda connection cable second hand for $80. The Mazda unit fits all Mazda cars from about 2003 on.

You can get it new here http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info. ... cts_id/940 a lot cheaper than Mazda AU.

Hope that helps.

Thanks CB for the info,

At this stage i think i will go with this GROM unit.

http://gromaudio.com/store/aux_adapters ... face_.html

Aux unit $69.99 USD
Shipping $34 USD

Anyone know any other better / cost effective options?

This way i can use the 3.5mm plug to hook up my htc.

I have bought a mount + charger, so this way i should be able to
1. listen to music through speakers but controlled through phone
2. take calls while driving handsfree with my currrent blue tooth device thing
3. use the htc as a gps / sat nav
4. record driving footage through the windscreen using the camera function

All this on the one device , kinda cool huh :)

I originally thought a vent mount would place the device a little more conveniently/subtely but recording would not be nearly as good so i've gone for a suction mount of which i'm not the biggest fan.

Rjastra,
Thanks for the link mate , would this operate through micro Usb , on the Mx 5 ? Or does it have a plug which fits in the head phone jack ? I can't find much info about this device ...
