Interior lights and tail lights gone...

Hey everybody,
I've lost all my interior lights and tail lights on my NA6 :(
Headlights and indicators are ok. The fuses are all ok (TAIL and BTN).
I'm not sure if they both went at the same time, but the wiring diagram suggests it's all connected together.
Before they went I noticed the instrument lights would flicker on and off while driving, gradually becoming more off.
Could it be old wires touching/grounding?
Any ideas or key places to look?
I pulled out the radio and checked behind there today, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong there. The red/black wire that connects the interior light system never had anything connected after the head unit got installed, but everything worked. I thought maybe it was touching something but it was fine. Head unit's been in there for three years anyway...
Any advice much appreciated, thanks!

It's silly and it sounds like you have a bigger issue than me, but have a look at the dimmer switch. If I have the dimmer on full brightness the dash lights will go out so I have to leave it just off full.

I haven't seen a NA diagram just a NB and there is a tail light relay that controls all tail, park and dash lights if this fails it will leave the headlights working and the tail fuse in tact. worth a shot.

since this post is almost a month old you probably have had it sorted but for those who dont know;

your problem would probably be the combination switch that turns on your accessories. remove the switch and pull it apart and clean the contacts or replace the whole thing. pretty common problem on old mazda switches
