Hey all im new to the forums, I just purchased a NB series 2 2001 Mx5, This morning i went out to get in and hit the unlock button and the hazard lights flash twice but the car wont unlock. Hit the button again and same thing happens. Then the third try the car unlocks and flashes the hazards twice. I dont know what it is and haven't changed anything or been fiddling so i got no idea.
Could anyone please help ??
thanks in advance for replies !

Not one I've seen or heard of, but I guess you can rule out the remote being the problem. I assume the car battery has got plenty of life in it. Do both doors unlock ok if you put the key in the drivers door to unlock it? If only the drivers door does then there is something wrong with the central locking side of things.

Hmm this is interesting, i tried what you said, every time i used the key in the drivers door everything locked and unlocked. But when i used the remote the drivers door worked most of the time and the passenger some of the time :S very confusing there was no pattern.
No one has had anything like this before ? I really don't want to take it to Mazda.

Ok, sounds like the mechanism could just be a bit stiff in one or both doors. Did turning the key feel a bit harder than you thought it should? Difficult question perhaps, but if it felt like there was some resistance it could be that the lock or the mech between lock and central locking actuator is stiff. I would take the door trim off and see if there is anything obstructing the movement of the locking mechanism, but also put a small amount of grease or spray some WD40 around the moving parts of the locking mech.
What part of Australia are you in? Someone might be able to suggest a place to take it, other than Mazda.

Ok that sounds like not a bad idea, some time this week I will give that a try. The key feels a little notchy but like you said its a little hard to tell. I am located in sydney. I do most of the work myself so taking it to someone is my last resort. But if you know anyone hit me up.
Thanks
