I'm finally picking up my NA6 on Wednesday!

Anyway, one of the first things I'll probably do once I've had a chance to test out the stereo is replace the speakers with decent ones - I'm assuming what's in there is stock, but I don't know yet as the stereo was broken and he hasn't installed its replacement yet. He's giving me the replacement stereo (which I'll probably replace with something better anyway) so I'll fit it myself.

I've had a quick search through this forum but couldn't really find much information, and nothing specific to the NA6. What I did find suggested that the NB takes oversized 6.5" speakers, is this the case in the NA6 as well?

Also - should I go for splits or 2 or 3-way speakers? I've never owned a convertible before so I don't know how the sound would carry from speakers high up, or if it would just get lost in the road and wind noise.

No problems with 6.5" speakers.

Coaxials (multiple speakers in the one bracket) are an easier but worse option when compared to separate components. If you can be bothered to install separate speakers for the woofer and tweeter I'd recommend going with that; if you can't be bothered, 2way coaxials are often less bad than 3ways.

I know splits are better sound-wise, but just wasn't sure if this was still the case in a convertible - excellent! I don't mind putting the work in to do it right, I have 4 weeks off work so once I've worked out what speakers I'll get it's going to be done

I'm probably going to go with the Pioneer DEH-3350 UB for the head unit, I have a 3050 UB in my work car and it goes just fine on my 60-90 minute commute.

Well, the DEH-3350UB is on order. I checked the speakers in the car - it has a pair of Alpine 2-way coaxials, which actually sound quite good. There are also a couple of these tiny little tweeters which look like lapel mics in the corners of the windscreen. Honestly, the sound is fine - just needs a sub to fill out the very bottom-end . I will probably remove the speakers and put a bit of sealant around their edges as I'm fussy about that sort of thing.


Surprisingly when I was listening to the 'wall of sound' at the local Autobarn, the only speakers which actually sounded even close to as good as the top end splits were a set of coaxials of the same brand (Rockford Fosgate). Whether or not this is because they're trying to push RF, I don't know - but the speakers genuinely sounded good and I was surprised at how bad the cheaper splits sounded. I understand now why people used to recommend the old kevlar Response splits from Jaycar - unfortunately they don't seem to have them anymore .

I've found that 6" is probably close to the limit.

I've got 5.75" Scanspeak Revelators in there right now on custom baffles, and there isn't a lot of room left diameter-wise. That said, my baffles are cut for a flush mount, so that takes a bit more space also.

Without a flush mount cutout i'd say you would probably squeeze in a 6", maybe a 6.5" - anything bigger then that and you'd need some custom pods (unless you dodgy install it, which i wouldn't recommend).
