Correct Sailor, first the phone and cable then software then an iphone pod in the car.
I was actually reading MX5cartalk even before buying my car. Through a great article 'which MX-5 for you' - in the NB8B section was mentioned that the 2002 got OBDII (meant nothing at the time).
Then through the US forum in the CAI section the measurement of IAT was done through scanguage. Intrigued I read that all sorts of things could be done through OBDII. US cars had it from 1996, presumably through emissions legislation. The OZ cars only got it in 2002. Again, through the forums, I found the most likely place for the connector was the fuse box, opened it and there like the Holy Grail was a great fat black plug.
Now my question is: Given that you can get thousands of dollars worth of instrumentation i.e. Intake temp, Coolant Temp, Air Pressure etc etc for the price of a scanner why haven't SP owners been screaming for years that this is essential kit ???? (unless SPs were exclusively 2001 cars without OBDII?)
Anyway, this looks to be the one thing every 02+ enthusiast should check out. Cue Homer Simpson dancing.

If you're DRIVING an SP, you wouldn't have a chance to read the guages, which is why I fitted some shift lights!
