Picking up my NB8A tomorrow!
I've currently got a golf fitted with Focal 165KR splits (6.5"), Focal power 2ch amp and an alpine H/U
It sounded amazing in the golf with deadened doors, is it worth transferring it to the mx-5 being a noisy convertible and all?
I am planning to pick up a hard top in the next year or so if that makes any difference..
I'm hoping the speaker size are the same, can anyone confirm? A google search that it's simultaneously 5.25, 6.5 and 6.75 at the same time..
Also, is there already a hole in the firewall I can use for the amp's power cable or will I have to drill one?
Anything to avoid? Is the stock tweeter location fine etc etc
Thanks guys

its worth upgrading the stereo in the Nb. 6.5 inch speakers will fit fine, you will need to make up a adaptor thing though as they are a werid size speaker standard, Not too hard at all.
the battery is in the back of the car, so there are plenty of holes to run amp cables to

As Regie said, should be a piece of cake.

Holes in the firewall? What for?
The NB's battery is in the boot.
I have some documentation on my JVC install, hope it helps with some of your questions.

My old NB had Orion MB 8's in the doors (8 inch) witout modification. (and soundteam exact tweeters and crossovers). the MB8's did need spacers to clear the glass
Soundstream Amp was mounted in the boot also.
It was an awesome sounding setup.
So I cant see how what you're proposing is an issue

The Focals will sound great in the 5.
I've got a set in mine and i'm very happy with them.
The best place to mount the amp is in the tunnel between the boot and the cabin, as it gets plenty of air there, so it won't overheat, and nothing will touch it to damage it either.
While you're there, ad a small sub in the boot.
It really does improve the sound.

8" are a direct fit for the NB doors but take some time and effort to sound deaden the doors and it'll make a load of difference.
At one stage I had 4 x 8" 3ways in my NB but removed the rear speakers to put a rollbar in.
I've had several different amp setups, I currently have a tiny clarion amp attached to a board in the boot. Is been designed so that with a couple of wingnuts and plugs it can be removed within minutes for motorsport.
