Hi all

I've got a relay under my dash (next to the fuel pump relay) from what I can tell it's for the interior fans and it is melting the plug slowly

Anyone got any ideas why this would be happening and what I can do to fix this?

The relay side of things looks perfectly fine

From the looks of things one of the pins in the plug is getting hot and the plastic surrounding it is melting and a bit of the insulation on that wire is too

first, check that the correct fuses are being used on the circuit(s) in question.

if they are correct, your problem is most likely dirty contact(s) on the relay and/or socket. resistance = heat.

Yes correct fuse

The relay turns on as soon as it's in the ON position

The wire that is melting is the output wire


Also the relay is getting warm too :S

try cleaning the contacts on the relay and in the socket.

if it's just a standard relay (not one with a fancy expensive socket) i would just cut the socket off and solder a new one in it's place. you will need to address the issue of melted wiring anyway.

Yeah it's not a standard relay

But the plug looks pretty standard though

I'll take a picture of it

I'll clean the contact with some CRC Contact Cleaner
