hey guys,
i recently bought a set of headlights with projectors off ebay and ever since i have, my headlamps keep blowing.
im not sure what could be doing this.
firstly a week after i installed them, my drivers low beam went.
replaced it
then a few days later my passangers high beam went.
replaced it
then a week later the passanger low beam went.
replaced it again,
now i just got home to find that my drivers low beam went again.
WHAT THE F*%K
any ideas on what could be causing this?
and yes i have checked any grounding wires/terminals.
the globes are all of the correct voltage/amperage
they are all standard replacement globes.
the only noticable difference between the standard headlights and these ones are that these ones have the park lights in the headlight casing whereas my original ones did not.
even still, the new ones are not hooked up so i dont see any reason for extra stress on the system.
please help

Three things,

1. Was this just a headlight housing replacement, or were other parts added/replaced. If so please provide more detail?

2. Try swapping the original headlight housings back in, to see if that eliminates the problem. That way you know if it is the new headlights, or something else.

3. Are you handling the bulbs with your naked fingers? Oil from your fingers creates hot spots on the bulb which can lead to failures.

Could be a voltage issue.

Quite often a non standard headlight configuration will need a relay installed as well. I would suggest a visit to an auto electrician and they get test voltages and suggest what is needed to solve the issue.

i thought about that but then again, i only changed the casing, not the globes or anything electrical.
i might have to bite the bullet and head down there to see if he can figure it out.
at the moment i have one oem yellowish looking drivers globe and one afm blueish looking passanger globe.
looks completely retarted but hey, theyre still working.

I concur with Juffa- what have you replaced? The standard set up is normally a 7in insert ( glass lense / metallised reflector) with built in bulbholder in which you place an H4 bulb. By all means refit the original and see if the problem goes away. The term projector does not make much sense to this type of lamp. More info

yep, theyre exactly what i got.
chaps its been a while now and the only problem i got was the oem bulb blew.
replaced it with another oem replacement globe and thats been about 2 weeks now without any hassels.
still fingers crossed.
i have noticed one thing out of the ordinary though,
when i use the stalk initiate the highbeams, you can hold it in between high and low beams and they both stay on......
im stabbing in the dark here but maybe that was blowing globes, (having high and low beams on at the same time)

H4's are 60/55W ie high low. Projectors are normally designed for one purpose ie low beam and have a single filament- you must have some hybrid system. Holding the stalk may operate both filaments but only one when in the switched position. You need to be sure that the connections to the lights are good that is both on the power sides low and high and also for earthing. Your local library may have some books like "How to diagnose and repair Automotive Electrical Systems ( Tracy Martin) which are really helpful.

ok excellent, ill look into it.
although the local library maybe a bad idea, bad experiences with librarians when i was younger.
google will have to do.
but i appreciate all the help guys.
