Hi Guys,
I hope you can help me, the glass on my passenger side fog light is smashed, the light still works luckily. I have been quoted by Mazda around 400-500 for a new fog light, do you guys have any solutions? The car is a 2000 Series 2 with the fog lights by Cibie.

Thank you.

Have you checked the for sale section of the forum? Boyracer was selling them for about $100 or 150 each.

Try and contact him if you can't find the post.

MX5Parts UK sell them. Still not cheap, but you'd save a good $150 or more through them over Mazda, and they would arrive here from the UK within a week.

Try one of the sponsors, MX 5 plus, MX 5 mania.

also search the internet under cibie, you should be able to find the light number and buy it a lot cheaper, had a similar one break on my previous Mazda Tribute, quoted around the same but found them on the net for about $130-$150 that was about 5 years ago though.

If you do a search, there's a thread from some time ago, about it being the same part on a US Ford "Thingy"

A lot of the Jap imports don't have them, as they are fitted with some ugly vents. So getting one through the MX-5 shops here is rare unless they wreck a local one, which may already have them broken due to the reasons they are being wrecked.

I believe the manufacturer of the fog light changed between the 01-05 years as well, there's cibie and another brand.

If someone has the part numbers handy so we can contact Cibie and the other alleged company that would be awesomeness.

Boyracer had a couple from an SE. I bought one off him for $100 with a broken bracket which suited me. Swapped it myself which was kind of fidly but not hard.

He did have another one for $150 I think which was complete.

The US site has touched on this subject quite often. You might be able to get an alternate lamp. They are a pretty useless product unless you actually encounter fog and even then they are no great shakes. You could look around and see if some other vehicles uses the same size and try the wreckers. You might even see if it would be possible to fit a quality day time running lamp in the aperture - not sure if there is anything round which will fit. Some of the major lighting suppliers do have sizes for aftermarket lamps in cats or on line cats though you will not get this info for OEM products- as an aside some of the OEM fogs are actually aftermarket lamps adopted for OE to avoid tooling up a specific lamp.
