DIY head unit install - help

Hi Folks
I'm just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem installing a new head unit. My car is an NB8A and before starting I made sure I'd bought the appropriate wiring harnesses as I didn't fancy cutting wires and working out what goes where as I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to that sort of thing.
Any way I disconnected the -ve battery terminal before starting suggested by the instructions for the new head unit and eventually managed to get the old unit out of the dash. Then I went to connect the OEM to ISO wiring harness I'd bought (this is meant to be for cars older than 01 - mine is a 98) the first connector was fine but the second one just doesn't fit.
As you can see in the attached photos the male side has a flat under side but the female side has 3 ridges.
I've been down to the local autobarns to see if they had a different wiring harness that would work (I'd bought mine from the uk and wondered if they had different stereos) but they had nothing in their catalog for mazda.
In the mean time I put the new unit in with none of the wires connected but now when I lock the car from the remote the indicaters flash constantly, is that just the alarm sensing that that some tea leaf has made off with the stereo or have I stuffed something up?
Cheers
