Just wondering if theres a helpful thread on how to do a head unit installation on my little '89 na6.. i have some pioneer 6" speakers that do the job, but ill probably change them with these afterwards.

Haven't chosen a head deck but if i feel confident enough after checking out a step-by-step on the installation, ill go buy one soon. (as a side note - as i'm sure there are plenty of threads on this - any recommendations?)

Im growing tired of this poor sound quality and just want 2 get a little more punch without spending an arm and a leg on audio equipment and labour.

I tried it once before aaages ago in my other car (the mx6), and that was an absolute nightmare.. but i think i could handle it nowdays if i had a good write up to follow

If i missed a thread, im sorry, but i've been searching for ages and cant find anything useful. It seems lots of people have done it so i imagine it cant be that hard could it?

Pretty simple job. The hardest bit will be either soldering up the harnesses/wires. Or you can do what I did and just buy replacement harnesses from aerpro. A mazda -> ISO and ISO -> whatever brand you're putting in.

To get the HU out you need to take out the center console (a few screws), and the center console (a few screws and eyeball vents)

Oh, since you have a NA6 you'll end up with a gap around/below your headunit. Maybe chat to someone else with a NA6 to see what they've done. I *think* you might just need a bigger cubby box.

From memory...

Screws in the compartment of the centre console, one more either side of the transmission tunnel. Remove gear knob. Centre console should pop out.
Pop out the eye ball vents, one scren behind each of them. A few more at the bottom of the tombstone. Tombstone should pop off.

Four? screws hold the headunit cradle in. 2 more hold the headunit to the cradle.

No idea on wiring. Plenty of wiring guides around though.

If you're unsure of how to do it, and you're frightened to botch it up, take it to a professional to do it for you.
If it's just the head unit, they won't charge too much to install it for you and it may save you many hours of pain and frustration, to say nothing about fixing problems that may occur after the install, such as badly run wires giving you interference, blown fuses etc.
