what does a link ecu look like? where?

hey all.
i have a turbo na6 mx5 and when i purchased it i was told it had a stand alone "miata link" ecu fitted.
after months or owning it today i finally pulled the carpet back, unbolted the cover plate and had a look. what i found was a denso branded silver box with B64F on it..??
so what i want to know is... is the link pigybacked and located somewhere else or has avo stooged the previous owner (i have the link owners manual and a receipt from avo for turbo kit and "early style link ecu")
it also runs no AFM and with the above info i assumed it would be pretty legit.?????

any info appreciated.

Here is the original ECU.

Here is the Miata Link ECU in the original ECU case. It is a full replacement unit, not a piggy back.

Also, in the engine bay you should have a small back box marked Miata link. The wiring loom for the AFM plugs into that, along with the knock sensor and a vacumn/boost hose. This black box is both the MAP and Knock sensor.

Below is the hand controller for programming and monitoring the ECU. In some cases AVO and other tuners do not provide the controller to the owner once the ECU is tuned.

If it runs no AFM, you can be pretty sure it's got an aftermarket computer in it (or piggyback).

ah ok.
so the link circut board can go in the original ecu casing?
i'll pull it out again and also have a decent look under the hood.

Yes it goes into the original ECU casing. The original wiring loom needs to plug into it, so where better to fit it.

A word of caution. If you want to remove the ECU from the car, or need to unplug the wiring loom for any reason ensure you remove the negative battery lead first. If not you can zap your ignition ignitor ...don't ask me how I know :roll:
