Radio showing "CODE" every now and then in NB8B

Methinks my battery may be on the way out.
About once a month the radio loses power and displays CODE.
Easy to reset radio, but i'm wondering if it is symptomatic of some problem?
Battery? Ignition? ???????

Any thoughts?
