My speakers stopped working. So my set up is now ipod to Senheisser 240v wireless headphones via 12v to 240v converter with 4 way cig lighter outlet so I can still power other items. Great for warming the ears, great sound, and my driver's window has stopped rattling too (as far as I know).

hrmm.. i'd say they are a potential danger since you don't hear first hand of all the sounds happening around you.. what if you're driving into someone else's lane and they are honking their horn at you and you can't hear them?

Thanks for the thought. I guess it's the same as having normal speakers on load - doesn't stop you loooking around and in your mirrors.

It might be illegal, note just about all headphones come with warnings that they are not to be used while operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery.

It is actually not illegal, but I still wouldnt do it.
The NSW head of police traffic command, Chief Superintendent John Hartley, said wearing headphones while driving was "not illegal, but not advisable". "If you're deemed to be not in proper control of your vehicle or not aware of your environment while you're driving, you could be done for negligent driving if you cause an accident," he said.
I bought, many years ago, are very nice Alfa sedan without a car radio. The owner reckoned he enjoyed the car so much he did not need a radio but some cannot live without it. I could easily live with AM only!

Are deaf people allowed to drive?
If I have to still hear the outside world am I not allowed to listen to listen to music with the noize canceling headphones??? Would that be illigeal seeming Im trying to dull my souroundings???

Good point. But I guess there is no excuse (deaf/earphones/loud music) if you cut someone off in the next lane. All the laws still apply.

Yes deaf people are allowed to drive, and almost all do so without any issues, however stupid people are also allowed to drive, which causes more issues than just about any other..

i wouldn't do it, don't want to be the difference between someones life or death if an ambulance or firetruck needs to get past.
get some portable small speakers for the time being. i have a iDOG Amped dancing toy speaker on my dashboard sometimes.
