ECU in SP - Which models are the same

I need to confirm if the ECU in the 2002 SP is the same as in older MX5s? I know that it will have a different program in it but is it the same hardware? Is it going to be the same as an NB8A or even an NA8?
I need to get my hands on an ECU to make a wire in ECU into a plug n play by cannibalising the plug from a stock one and I don't want to destroy my stock one to do it.
If anyone has knowledge in regards to this it will be greatly appreciated.

you don't neet to cannabilise a stock ecu just to get the plug. the plugs can be bought seperately.. there is a guy on ebay that sells them. i got a brand new one for my na6 for about $20 from him. i might be able to find his details if you want. i think thats a far better way to go, start fresh rather than try to use a chopped up old plug.
of course this doesn't solve your immediate problem coz you still don't know what sort of plug you need, but the info is out there and hopefully someone else can help.

Get a factory harness extension from
Boomslang in the U.S.
If there is enough EOI in this, I can organise a group buy!
Les @ MX5 Shop
P.S. that is what I did with any customer's MX5 running different ECUs.

To try and answer the original question, yes, the ECU in the SP is the same as other NB8B's.
The main chip has been re-programmed by Chip Torque in Qld, but the box and all the plugs are the same.

Hi Devolutio,
It turns out that the company in Cairns (TF Electronics) is the same company that made the ECU I am installing into the car (ViPec). I am going to send them a picture of the plug out of my ECU and he is hopefully going to be able to match or make a connecter for me that will plug straight into the ViPec.
I will hopefully have this finalised sometime next week. Luckily I am not in a hurry because the ecu is not going into the car until late August.
Let me know how you go with your option.

After a couple of e-mail discussions and some photo's we have now found that the MX5 connection to the ECU is the same as a Supra (Toyota Supra 2JZ-GTE VVT-i) less two end sockets. TF Electronics have these connectors in stock and have removed two sockets and are sending the modified connector to me today. Hopefully once this is wired to the wiring loom that came with the ViPec ECU it will then act as a plug and play straight into the Mazda and will only need tuning before we are up and running.
All things working out OK we will then be making aprox 180 - 200 rwkw which is more than enough to get into trouble
