Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, although I have posted before. I know this topic was discuess with NB8A version, an it might be similar, but I thought I will tell you my case, and hopefully someone can help me.
Ok...
I have bought a new NA8 1993 Model around a month and a half ago (good price 7.5K). The car is in awesome condition and no problems what so ever except one. Power Windows. I knew the power windows were not working at the time of purchase. And when I asked why this was the selleres response:
"My son was driving to the city, left the windows down, the car got robbed, so in order for that not to happen again, I got an electrician to disconnect it...all you have to do is lift the hatch up where the switch is and connect them"
The story sounded a bit fishy but i decided to give him the benefit of doubt. So finally today I got around to take a look at it after fixing few minor things over last few weeks.
I did as he said, however to my suprise (or lack of it) everything seemed to be connected under neath the power window switch. I am no expert but i didnt see anything disconnected. I checked the fuses, and they were all ok.
When you press the switch, you can hear a small buzzing sound which indicates that the switch is working and trying to pull nthe window down, however windows dont move. This sound is only heard when the engne is running, otherwise the pressing of the switch doesnt initiate any reaction.
If someone can shine a light to this problem, withou me having to go to a car electrician and paying a fortune...that would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks
Nikola

NA8 Power Window Problem
does the buzz noise happen when the engine is off but the key is turned to the on position?
I remember reading that after a period of the window straining because of dirty guides and lack of lubrication, the cable that moved the windows can break.
I think you can buy replacements off MX5Mania.

here's the listing:

pop the door trim off and have a look to see if the motors are actually working, it's very simple. you should be able to see if the cables are intact and spinning etc...

NA8 Power Window Problem
It could be switch contacts. They're notorious for getting a carbon build up.
You'd need to get the switch out of the console (not a hard job), disassemble the switch and clean the copper contacts with fine sandpaper or similar.
More info here.
