recommend me a pair of speaker for NB8B
Hello,
recommend me a pair of front speakers for my NB8B. budget is within $300 - $400. won't put Sub (although got one at home collecting dust...). Already got a Kenwood Amp which used to run my front splits and Sub. Won't change the factory head unit at this stage so the speaker will be paired up with my factory headunit and kenwood Amp
Would 8 inch a good size to go?
Reason to keep the headunit is because don't want to have a ugly hole if I get a single din, and don't want to spend too much on double din.
If I get a front split, can I use the factory tweeter cover without modification?
thanks
Felix

I won't recommend you any specific speakers (ok I lied, my AVI bb160's are just awesome, but also a little out of your price range) but instead recommend you to go to as many car audio stores as you can and listen to as many different sets of speakers as you can. Your own ears will be able to tell you what you like far better than any of us could. If it sounds good and is within your budget, then you've got a winner.
Also try to listen to some speakers both above and below your price range. This should give you a better idea of what you're paying for.
Take a cd that you are familiar with to listen to. That way you'll know if the music sounds as it should, rather than listening to the specific music the shop knows sounds good on particular speakers.
Don't be shy to ask questions and shop around.

thanks Jeo. I went to Metrosound the other day in Artarmon and listened to their AVI range. The guys said they are as good, and even sound better than the JM lab Utopia... I have to say they sound very nice but yes, it is a bit over my budget. I think the package they recommended will set me back $1500, just for a pair of speaker and tweeter.
Today I went to Doran Pro Audio in Bankstown and they recommended me a pair of 8" Nertz front split. They said they are no 1 in Europe and America. Anyone heard this brand before or have any experience? The shop is undergoing renovation so no demo...

Hertz are awesome and are a highly regarded brand, their midbass is killer, if installed well they will kick like a mule at your chest, their midrange and high freq is okay, might be a bit harsh for some.
I really recommend Doran, Tony is great to deal with.
It depends what music you listen to as well.
If you want a more softer, mellow sound, try Morel, but their midbass lacks, Doran can get this in as well.

The shop I got mine from only had a few AVI's on demo but the top end ones they had there, about $1250 from memory, were just incredible. Significantly more than I wanted to spend, but wow they sounded good.
Not sure exactly which ones they were, but a friend had hertz 6.5's in his Civic a while back. I remember them being spectacular around the mid-bass, but that may have just been compared to what everyone else I knew was running at the time (case in point my old exclusively Alpine Type-S system was considered pretty high end by most of my friends...).
Have you checked out not Car Audio Australia? Theya re normally full of good information.
I know they changed their name but I don't like it

I'm not entirely sure which speakers fit well in the NB doors, but I'd recommend Polk. I recently installed a set of of Polk 6.5" splits in my NA (DB6501, which were just under $400 when I got them), and I'm really impressed with them. The bass wasn't quite as intense as the Hertz, but the midrange had a lot more presence which suits the music I listen to. That said, the bass I heard from the Hertz and Polk in that price range was above and beyond everything else I listened to.
Depending on what music you listen to, I'd go Hertz or Polk. Doof music or similar bass-heavy stuff, definately the Hertz. If you lean more toward rock and such, give the Polk a go.
