As title states i am installing some new splits in my car, they will come with tweeters and as far as i can see there are not many logical places to put them with out looking untidy.
If anybody has any experience with this or has some pictures they would like to share i would be very grateful.
Many thanks.

I mounted a set in my old five. I used the plastic windscreen surround panel and mounted them nice and close to the dash. It provided good sound quality and a nice clean look. It's also a good spot because you can run the wiring behind the dash, never to be seen.
I stole bensales piccie from another thread (hope you don't mind
). The red circle is where i had them mounted.

I have mine mounted at the front of the triangular window on the door. Just to the left of the red circle.
I made mounting plates from thin sheet aluminium and bent it up so that the tweeter stuck to the alloy. The alloy has 'legs' that go between the window and the door trim, locking the whole lot into place very effectively. With a few simple bends in the alloy, the tweeters are mounted such that they point straight at the head position in the drivers seat. I then painted them gloss black and they really blend in.

when i bought my car, it had tweeters fitted exactly as adamjp has just described. it blended in pretty well, they were fairly inconspicuous. altho i have since removed all the speakers, to be replaced with something else at some point in the future.

Mine are currently in the top of the door panel, about 30cm back from the corner where the other have posted theirs. I'd post a photo but I'm at work.
But to be perfectly honest, they are a little too bright there and the right certainly overpowers the left.
If I didn't already have holes there from when the previous owners had them installed, I wouldn't have put them there. I do plan to one day take them out and mount them in the very bottom corners of the windscreen, just leaving the old tweeter grills where they are now.

No worries using my picture Jimmy, I'm just glad it's a good one
I watch this thread with interest as I may do a similar thing at some stage.

the headrest? it's supposedly not all that hard of a job to do, and you could always just solder in a fat resistor to bring the levels down a bit, plus i guess the seat fabric would insulate the high frequencies a bit too. you do know all NA headrests have the cavities for the factory premium sound option, right? just a suggestion, and no, i don't have this myself. mine are just on the door panels kind of directly above the door speakers. i would have opted against cutting holes in my door panels and door inner frames, but the pervious owner thought it'd be a sweet idea.
is it MX5Mania who sell the 'clearwater' speaker set? shoot them an email and find out about the headrest speakers and if putting your certain tweeters in there would be practical.

Not 100% sure on this but I thought there were two separate cutouts in the headrest for speakers? Therefore mounting only one tweeter in there would have to mean its off to one side, which I'd imagine wouldn't sound so great.
That and by being so close to your ears the high frequencies would be too over powering.

I agree with jeo.
I do like your idea adamjp, it look like it could work quite well.
Jimmy, thats where i was thinking of mounting them in the first place until i saw this, tweeters came factory standard on the 1993 Eunos roadster R limited. Red interior is oh so tasty aswell

I was at the mx5 centre today, I believe James' clubman has some mounted there.
And sorry, I just really don't see that interior in a red car... Should spray yours black

That's not only where mine are mounted but I have the exact same tweeter grills too.
*off topic*
Maybe mine were stock? Anyone know any more particulars about the imported NA V Special?

Do they make aftermarket NA door trims to include tweeters? It might be another option worth looking at if you're after a really clean installation. Either way, mounting them anywhere suggested will provide good sound quality.

The Neo Green LEs that I have seen have had the tweeters mounted in the upper door trim as shown in the red trimmed LE. I take it yours are not mounted there Jimmy?
My tweeters are mounted in the upper door trim, a couple of cm closer to the 1/4 window. I used to have them mounted in the corner of the 1/4 windows until someone else took a liking to them and smashed the windows to get them.
I remember doing research on the big forum and a number of people were saying that moving the tweeter too far from the main driver impacts the sound staging in a negative way, but hey we are driving topless cars so the sound is never going to be perfect.
