Faulty nb8a central locking alternative fix + alarm install

Postby crzymx » Fri Dec 12, 2008 4:01 pm

Ok now after a long run trying to install my alarm system i managed to get it done better than any installer with the help of my mech.

If you are like me and dont have the time or the resource, or money to fix the faulty central locking kit you can always bypass it completely and install a keyless entry unit. A lot of the time you will find that it is not the passenger side, but the limit switch on the drivers side door that is faulty. With this being said, one can install a master actuator in the drivers door that will bypass the limit switch and upon being activated by a remote etc, sending a signal directly to the passenger door to unlock. So whether it is a keyless entry kit, or an alarm (you can buy a master actuator from jaycar for like $11 if it doesnt come with one already) you can fix this problem, and at the same time add some convinience to your driving. No one can say that keyless entry is not easier than using a key because your either too old fashioned or in denial.

Now unfortunately i didnt get any pictures however i think i can provide sufficient help with not only the install and positioning of the actuator which is pretty hard, and would require some advice from someone who has done it, but the complete alarm set up with wiring, and how to connect hazard lights etc etc.

Id prefer not to write anything more at this stage as its hard to start without pictures or an idea of what people are going to be using, however i am more than happy to answer any questions that may be troubling you. So consider this a Q&A for alarm install and central locking fix.

Nothing is ever impossible, so start with your questions, or even your situation and i can direct your from there. Thanks!

Well with most alarms, when it is activated, your nominated lighting will flash. Thats kind of the point. Regardless, if you want to nominate your hazards you will need to first remove your hazard switch which can be done by using a flahead to GENTLY pry off the cover. You will need to remove your deck or cubby to get a hand underneat the get out the button if your having trouble. Now im not sure if you have the same model as me, so i dont know if this is the same with different 5's but here it is anyway. According to the type of alarm, you will have lighting wires. Usually it is two, on for right an left. Next you need a test light to test the different outlets at the back of the button. Toggle the hazard switch wile poking the outlets to find which is your hazard output. You will notice that the test light pulses with the hazards. Now im not 100% which wires are used, this is why you have to find out yourself. Once you have found the wire or wires, you will need to use a razor to carefully strip an area of the wire so you can solder it on (i wouldnt be taping it at this stage) and then either heatshrink or tape well to cover the joint. Before you put everything back together, lock and unlock your alarm while walking around the car (this would be a good idea to do before you solder) and checking that all lights flash when activated. Dont forget to activate hazards and blinkers aswell to check if they all work correctly. Put everything back together and your done. Its good to do this with two people.

Hope this helps.
