Has anyone installed a NB intake manifold and throttlebody to an NA with their MSPNP? I've asked at DIYautotune and they reckon its been done before, just need to fiddle around in the settings to get the IAC working apprantly.

I have the NB manifold, TB and sensors, and will hopefully be getting the harnesses for those sensors soon so that i (and this is the bit i need help with) can wire it all up. If anyone can offer some guidance on this matter or if your in Brisbane maybe have a chat please let me know.

please excuse my lack of knowledge Saffa, what gains or advantage will doing this give you, like everyone else i'm looking to squeeze every inch out of the engine without going FI

Hi Grump

Id say Saffa is doing this to aid the installation of the MSPNP ECU, rather than as a performance modification in its own right. From what ive read, the NA6 (manual trans) engine has a Throttle Position Sensor that works like an on/off switch. The auto NA6 and later engines (NB etc) have a variable TPS. The on/off TPS works fine for the basic NA6 factory ECU, but modern aftermarket ECU's get a bit grumpy if they are not receiving an accurate TPS reading. Therefore its preferable to fit a variable TPS if installing an ECU on a NA6.

Options include installing the whole intake manifold/throttle body/TPS from a NA6 auto or NB6, gutting the NA6 TPS unit and converting it with aftermarket parts to read variable, or replacing the TPS unit with a variable alternative (BMW E30 is apparently almost a straight swap).

That is pretty much the plan. I hope to get the NB6 TPS and IAC harness soon from Mx5plus. But I really need to know how easy it is to swap over the old and new stuff.

Ummmm...yeah its on the car. Had it installed by a shop, wasn't too much of a hassle to get done, TPS works great, idle valve is ok. Makes a few noises at times, car is back at the tuners getting blower installed and they are going to have a looksie and see whats up with the idle valve, they were confident when I dropped it off as they had dealt with Danny's and Mokestas mspnp's the day before and thought they may have had a solution to the issue.

Otherwise in terms of it lining up etc, its all good.

Just saw this thread, and answer is yes, have had it on there for a while now.

The noise from the idle valve will be caused by the frequency being set incorrectly. I can't recall who it was but someone on mt.net scoped the stock valve on an nb and that is where I got my frequency value from. I have not been able to get it to idle properly but that would be more due to the fact that I have more agressive cams and it has not yet been properly tuned on the dyno. Anyhow the frequency was 500Hz so if you set the frequency in mtune to 20 you should not hear that noise anymore. You will need to fiddle with the DCs to suit your engine but if you atart with a startup of around 10 or so and min set a little lower than that it should get you close.
