I had that on both my NAs. Fixed it by replacing the retractor relay, which is under the steering wheel. Sorry, I don't recall the part number but you can pull it out and check.

On my NA the lights would come up but not down....I eventually got it to work by re-jigging the wiring, didnt even think of the relay haha

Hey mate,
I have the 92, same issue as all of you. Just replaced the relay, under the steering column. Problem fixed.

FYI:
I had a similar problem with my relay - the headlamp switch wouldn't pop the lights up or down but the console switch worked.
The Mazda part no is : B481 67 7COB - list cost as of today $258.00 inc GST
Yeah, so I gagged.
However - gave it to an electronics tech I know and he fixed it up good as new for $60.00, apparently the caps had dried out and a trany had fizzed.
That saved $199 -

i've got an intermittent headlight retractor relay problem... using manual switch on dashboard keeps them up but if i forget about 5 mins into driving the lights just go straight down. freaky the first time it happened. tried to find the relay to replace it but didn't have much luck. anyone got a picture of where it is under the dash?

Hi devolutio,
no picture, but just remove the plastic panel under the column - 2 philips screws
you'll find it on a cluster of relays - hopefully pushed into one of the arms, it's the one with 6(?) pins in a U shape, about the size of 2 matchboxes.
