NB8B door speakers

Postby robbie9394 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 6:25 pm

Hey guys

Have a simple ... but irritating Question
i'm sure this has been asked b4, but just wanted to make sure with people who have had first hand experience with this !!

I am considering to buy splits for the doors
so .. the question is ...
what size speaker will fit into the door with MINIMAL MODIFICATION to the door trims (NB8B)??

I am looking at a pair of pioneer splits (TS-D1720C) which are 17cm
Will these fit ?

Cheers

Anything from 17cm and under is fine.

You could probably fit 8inch with a spacer.

Most 6x9's are too deep...?
Heard that it could interfere with the electric window/motor ...

Sorry bout the noobness ...
OEM is 6 x 8 .... if i install 6 x 9's .. does it require cutting doors ??
i would prefer to install 6 x 9's if it doesn't need cutting

i have found eclipse 6 x 8 speakers ...
http://www.eclipse-web.com/integrated/se6800.html
The specs aren't ... mind-blowing to say the least

There's heaps of depth to play around with. BTW 8" round speakers will fit without a spacer, you can even use the factory speaker holder mounting points to attach them. The speaker cavity is designed to fit 8" speakers for the markets that come with the BOSE setup.

Why dont you take the door card off and have a look for yourself? 3 screws, a few clips and an electrical plug and it's off, then you can take all your own measurements and work out what will fit and what wont..

Don't bother with 6x9's they're for the backshelf of the commode-ore, get some 8" rounds, easy fit.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

i wouldn't mind 8's ....
though ... i don't know of a reputable speaker manufacturer that makes speakers in 8" :|

always thought that 6 x 9's sound better then 8's anyhow... true or false ???

How much are you willing to spend?

And will they be powered by an external amplifier?

edit: 6x9 don't sound as good as 8.

They have more surface area, but the cone , not being round/ circular and induces distortion of the cone.
Though you need to be a audiophile, and spend big to notice.

$100 6x9's vs $100 8's will sound no different.

hint - check your local Repco - they might still have some left :D
