Hi Guys .
Someone here said it was easy fix to shut the door beeper up and it is located under the steering column. Buggered if I can locate it.
Does anyone have a definitve answer as to EXACTLY where it is? The noise is driving me nuts. It's a 2002 nb by the way.
Cheers Nick

I'm not sure where the beeper is but I just unpluged a 2 wire connector under the steering column and that worked for me, if I do it for Andrew then I'll take some pics for you.
It requires removal of the panel under the steering wheel/column

What Akex said. Find the ignition key barrell. It will have to thin wires coming out of it. (Not the thick main wires at the back of the barrell) Follow the 2 thin wires to a 2 pin plug near the steering column and disconnect the plug. Silence and bliss.

Thanks Garry I will try that.
The first wire (plug ) I pulled was the two wire job attached to the steering column .... no dice.

learn to respect the beep, it's there to tell you that you're doing something wrong.

In my NB8A, it was a White 2 wire connector under the steering column . All you have to do is disconnect it..

It is surprising Okibi what annoys people- it seems to stop when the door is closed.

why don't you just flick the key to "ACC" and it'll stop the beeping.................

The only way to stop the incesant beeping in my car was to remove the key from the barrel. Which makes it pretty hard to listen to the radio when cleaning or working on the car with the door open.

if i switched my key to ACCC, the beeping would stop.. but the "key in door" buzz still remains, not the 'beeping'

Oh, I thought we were talking about the buzzing. What is the beeping for? To tell you the door is open? I'm not sure my car did that.

the difference was:

1. When your key is rotated on the first click, only the electrics in the radio activates, and there is a beeping sound when you open your door..

2. When your key is rotated on the second click, ("ACC" mode), there are six beeps (on the NB8B's) when your seatbelt isn't slotted. The oil gauge and temperature gauge are also operated, so is your odometer.....

3. If your parker lights are switched on and the door is open, there is a buzz...

Ah, the trials and tribulations of the modern MX-5. I prefer my plain and simple NA.....where the only buzzing and beeping eminates from the driver at high speed (over 80Kmh).
