Looking into MegaSquirting

Postby Mr Starlet » Thu Jul 10, 2008 3:30 pm

Hey guys

I've always been keen on the MS ECU but becoming keener with some added cams. A little about the car...
N6CE (Eunos), HKS Cams 264@8.73mm lift, CAI, 4-1 headers, 2\" mandrel stainless exhaust, Tein SS, Whiteline sways, Jaycar DFA...

Now that the cams are in I'm interested in controlling both fuel and timing to get the best from the goodies. My questions regarding the MS....
1. How is MS1 V3.0 different from the MSPNP? is MSPNP simply = MS1V3.0 + PNP MX5 Socket + MX5 Map ? anything else, relay boards etc?
2. Once I have MS, all I need is IAT to remove stock NA AFM?
3. Can MS run close loop (with feedback from O2 sensors), can MS use narrow band O2 in close loop
4. Are there significant advantages in going for MS2?

Soldering and testing is part of my everyday so that's not an issue, I also have a few NA ECU laying around so salvaging sockets isn't the issues either. The real issue is trying to take $700 out of the bank without alarming the other half . Plus I'm quite happy to put in the time for some saving, quite a significant saving actually, 200 vs 700 for the unassembled kit against the PNP.

I'm leaning towards MS1V3 given the above, but what do you guy recon? MSPNP, MS1V3 or MS2V3, is it worth spend extra for MS2V3 or even the full PNP version at 3x price.

Cheers
Minh

Saboteur and Sabretooth both built theirs, so you can get some feedback from them regarding ease/difficulty of DIY.

Oh... is the kit $200? I thought it was closer to $350
Dont forget, you need the Innovate Lambda sensor ($170) and IAT ($30) to get the full benefit, but both can be purchased at a later date of course.

I thought he left the forum in disgust after I called Megasquirt a porn name
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

true he doesn't hang around here much any more. Various reasons, but it doesn't help when people make informative comments such as that.

Given the current exchange rate, it's pretty much dollar to dollar, but closer to AU$230 shipped.

I built one but sold it before using it, the second time round I just bought the MSPNP. It wasn't very hard to build, just time consuming.

MS1V3 = MSPNP almost once you perform all the mx5 mods to it.

A/c is pretty much how Sabretooth has documented, the fuel pump (in the MSPNP) comes on by using the startup coil on the relay (NA6 has a dual coil relay, the running coil is in series with your AFM).

What else? Umm you have to mod it for fans and idle control the rest will be as per the standard kit.

A wideband o2? you could get away with using a dyno for an initial tune to get you very close to stoich... then run closed loop with the narrowband sensor, but for around $170 you'll get widebands no anyways....

or try and borrow someones for a vouple of weeks and your tune would be pretty much set.
Huh?
