OEM head units (non-MX-5)

Postby Matty » Wed Apr 09, 2008 10:33 pm

I have a Clarion unit in the new MX (1999), but it's bright blue lit, difficult to use, and uglier than a bucketful of arseholes.

I'd really like to replace it with something black, stylish, green-lit, and very cheap. I figure some other DIN or double-DIN HU would be ideal - I'm not interested in a kickarse system. If it had an external input jack as many new ones do, that would be cool.

There are a few OEM (non-Mazda) double-DIN head units on eBay. Most common are Commodore and Toyota units. I assume the plug is different, but that shouldn't be too hard to deal with. Does anyone know if these could be bolted in to the NB?

Failing that, does anyone have a factory MX-5 HU they want to give away? (must have CD though.) Or any other Mazda vehicle ones that might go in? (I've heard Tribute HU is compatible)

currently 1-DIN, but there's a 1-DIN pocket under it. There were OEM 2-DIN options on the NB in some markets.

I don't want aftermarket as 99.9% of them look like arse.
