na8 cluster into na6?

Postby Fatty » Fri Apr 04, 2008 8:57 pm

if i was to install an na8 cluster into my na6 , is it a straight plug in swap?

i know at some point on the later models the oil pressure gauge is not a proper gauge, more of an idiot light... will mine still work properly?

Should work fine James, I would probably try get my hands on an early NA8 cluster and test it all out first. I dont know if the actually cluster changed in the later NA8's, or if it was just the senders.

Im using an NA6 cluster in my car with no problems, so the NA8 one should work on your NA6. Its just the oil pressure gauge I would worry about..

i just like the look of the na8 one better, it doesn't have the chrome bling rings and it has a rough finish rather than the smooth on the na6.

Thats the late model NA8 clusters... The early ones like mine have the metal rings, and smooth finish.

Can you just swap the plastic facia to the rough/non bling one? Save having to worry about the sender.

I'm pretty sure it's the oil pressure sensor that changed so your gauge should work the same. There's a write up on using an early model oil sensor on later model mx-5s in miata.net that might clear things up.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

nope, both the sender and gauge are different in late NA8s.

you will still get a reading using the NA6/early NA8 sender with the late NA8 gauge, but the gauge isn't linear and the needle is heavily dampened (moves really slow like the fuel gauge).

however you can simply swap out the earlier gauge and mount it in the late model cluster.
