Can you identify this part?

Postby SKYHI » Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:34 am

Hi guys,

I actually have two questions, both relating to the removal of air conditioning from my NA8.

Firstly, whilst removing one of the rails that run down the drivers side I came across what looks like a sensor of some description that was connected to a wiring loom. These parts are located just behind the drivers side headlight. Apart from this sensor the wiring loom also goes to the fan for the AC and these two weird looking things covered in rubber (picture below). Does anyone know what these are, and can I leave them off the car if I'm completely removing the AC?

Secondly, I disconnected two coolant lines that run off the back of the engine and through the firewall to the heat exchanger / evaporator thingy under the dash. With the AC removed do I now just connect these two coolant lines together effectively bypassing the unit that was under the dash?

Cheers, Paul.

Not airbag related? (Certainly hope not!)

Can't answer the question on the electrical plugs.....

On your other question. By coolant I assume you mean radiator coolant? If so, and you bypass the heater core you will not get any heat into the cabin (Even Brisvegas can get cold), whcih could be an issue if you need to defrost/clear the windows.

Not really a concern as it's destind to be a race car. Anyway I can just take out a couple of grommets out of the firewall and let the hot air from the engine bay into the cabin :D

I've got them, I know where they sit, and I have AC.
Was that any help at all? :|

Definitely not airbag or ABS. Does your clubie have power steering? If so, does it still work?

I had AC retro fitted to my NA8 and these were identified as relays that were needed for the install.

Thanks brenno. The way it was all hooked up on the same loom I figured it had to be something to do with the AC.

I'm not very technically minded but I remember seeing that on my 91 Astina. Could it be the motor for the retractable headlight?

Nope Vak, I thought the same too initially, but the headlight winder motor thingy is much bigger. The cap is similar though.
